Effective communication is key to the success of any group or organization if they are to successfully move toward the common goal of the group, and effective communication has been significantly improved with almost every advancement in technology. One of the most important developments in communications, after the telephone, was teleconferencing.

Teleconferencing allows groups of people to interact in a “virtual conference room” via phone or internet connections. With teleconferencing, each person who wants to participate in the conference call dials into a central phone number, and usually enters a code in order to join the specific conference call they are wanting to attend. Over the last few years, Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, services have become more common as well which has helped people to be able to participate in conference calls without having to worry about the cost of long distance. And, most recently, conference calls are being streamed over the internet and people can listen without needing the special hardware or software that VoIP requires, making these calls even more easy to participate in.

Holding teleconferences gives businesses a very cost effective way of having meetings over long distances, allowing them to conduct business presentations, to train employees, to hold seminars and workshops, and to deliver lectures and in general communicate and collaborate with people who do not physically have to be in the same location. As such, web conferencing solutions has already made a great positive impact in the effectiveness of communication for individuals and for organizations, and it is a technology that is sure to become more popular and offer even greater flexibility in the future.
