You’ve taken the plunge and decided you’re going to start business online. After buying many products and reading many blogs and newsletters about earning money online, you’ve decided that digital wealth is the way to riches for you!

However, before you start building that website or selecting a domain name, or do any of a number of tasks necessary with running a Online Business, please do yourself (and your would-be subscribers and customers) a huge favor… cease whatever it is that you’re doing (or are about to do) and spend a little time to think about the answer to a question that is going to determine once and for all, the basis of your home based business and what you’re going to do with it.

Here’s the question? what product do I sell?”
Now before you get discouraged, let’s get a few things out of the way. First of all, if you’re going to own an online business, chances are you’re going to be promoting Information Products. That’s not what we’re asking the question about, though.

And of course, if you’re even vaguely serious about making a profit with your business online, you also have concluded that you must sell services that appeals to and fixes a problem of your niche.

Okay, back to the question. There are basically two responses, and the resulting business model you’ll be following will depend a great deal upon which one you choose.

You can decide to concentrate all of your energy and efforts on promoting products created by other marketers, i.e. affiliate marketer. Quite a few well-known online marketers have made a lot of money as an Affiliate or Super Affiliate. Some have even created Information products about how to do this successfully.

Which leads us to the other option: promoting products that you have produced. There are many reasons why you should elect to sell your own products; let’s examine a few of them.

First off, there is the job of product promotion. By owning your own services, you will have the ability to choose how to promote them. Not so with affiliate programs; that decision is made for you. As a service owner though, you are able to decide to allow better commissions and free products to e-zine owners and marketers with their own personal lists. This is a very good idea to get going—and for creating future joint ventures.

Next, owning your own products enables you to brand yourself. By selecting this route, you’ve created the vehicle to get your name in circulation and for establishing an online presence. If your customers are familiar with you, and have known you for some time, more often than not they will decide to buy again when you either launch your next product, or recommend another persons’ products.

Lastly, by producing and owning your own products you have a better opportunity for creating credibility. Listen, it’s much more difficult to convince others to hand over money if you’re launching your own products. Of course, they have to be great quality items. Because of this, people will be more open to trust you. And when that happens, they are also more receptive to listen to what you have to say, which increases the possibility of persuading them to buy your services.
