What is it that makes a good leader? Is it the title? Is it experience? Is it people skills? What is it that makes some people stand out as having a mantle of leadership on them whether they have the role of leader or not?

One basic test of good leadership is quite simple. Are people willingly following that person? You cannot be a leader at all unless people are motivated to follow your lead. This could be as simple as one person watching you and following your example and encouragement. You can be a leader in your home, your community, your workplace or even your nation.

An important key for developing leadership skills is the ability to fully understand what the role of a leader involves.

One of the most critical roles of a leader is the most obvious - the ability and willingness to take the lead and to motivate the team to follow.
Generally speaking everyone falls into one of three categories:
1. People who make things happen
2. People who watch things happen, and,
3. People who ask “What happened?”
